Will's Half Birthday Party

Since it's so hard to celebrate a birthday two days after Christmas, we moved Will's celebration to his half birthday.  He was pleased that it allowed him to have a birthday party and invite all "his friends who can go in the road" as he calls them.  (These are all the kids in the neighborhood who are allowed to go in the street and to each other's yards to play.  Will is not allowed in the road, so he distinguishes them by the fact that they are.)

We had a really fun day, but I never imagined how much work a "simple" birthday party could be.  I really didn't think I was planning anything complicated (some water toys, cake, ice cream cones, half hamburgers & hotdogs to go with the "half birthday" theme, and a few streamers and balloons).  All I can say is thank goodness so many people were here to help.  Between Jerry, Mom, Grandad, Grandma, Kristen, and myself we managed to pull it together - despite the fact that the grill wouldn't light and we had to cook all the hamburgers and hot dogs inside at the last minute!  : )

In the end it was a really fun time for everyone.  The weather was perfect, and all the kids had a blast with the water toys.

This turned out to be one of my favorite pictures of Will's party!  Josie got caught in the act of steeling a bun (which I never noticed until I looked at the pictures) and Will is making one of his typical "I don't want a picture" faces.
